Cody Holland - Amanda Lynn Wilson Endowed Nursing Scholarship

Meet Cody Holland, a senior nursing major and recipient of the Amanda Lynn Wilson Endowed Nursing Scholarship.

A Petal, Miss., native and third-generation Golden Eagle, Cody has been chosen as the recipient of this scholarship for two consecutive years.

“I grew up coming to campus and have always loved the atmosphere at USM. There was never a second thought of where I’d earn my degree. This scholarship has meant a lot to my family and me by helping pay for my school expenses and removing some of the financial burden. My fiancé and I are also extremely grateful for the financial support as we begin our life together.”

With graduation quickly approaching, support from the Amanda Lynn Wilson Endowed Nursing Scholarship has assisted Cody Holland as he prepares to make an impact in the world through a career in nursing.

“Nursing will give me the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of people in my community. I hope that wherever I go, I will be prepared to meet the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of everyone I come in contact with.”

Cody has been an active member of the Southern Miss Baptist Student Union during his time at USM. Support from the Amanda Lynn Wilson Endowed Nursing Scholarship has contributed to his college experience by making it possible for him to devote more time to campus involvement.

“My scholarship has allowed me to attend school with a reduced work schedule, resulting in more time I can dedicate to my studies and building relationships with members of the Southern Miss community. I’ve also had the opportunity to be more involved with the BSU, which has opened doors for me to work with international students on campus, as well as travel to the Philippines last year.”
