General University Annual Scholarships


Osher Lifelong Learning Institute Annual Scholarship Fund
(Fund No. 0311)
The purpose of this fund is to provide a scholarship to a nontraditional student, over the age of 25, who has completed 90 hours of coursework and has financial need. If a student with financial need cannot be identified, the financial need criterion may be waived. Scholarship is limited to $1,000.00 per academic year.

Jim Payne Annual Scholarship Fund
(Fund No. 0398)
The purpose of this fund is to award a graduating senior from New Summit School, Jackson, Mississippi, who will attend The University of Southern Mississippi, a four-year scholarship. The final selection of the student will be made by the USM Scholarship Committee. The faculty and the guidance counselor from New Summit School, along with Jim Payne, will recommend students to The University of Southern Mississippi Scholarship Committee. To renew the scholarship, the student must maintain a 2.5 or better GPA and be involved in extracurricular activities at USM.

James Ray and Angeline Posey Memorial Education Fund
(Fund No. 0443)
The purpose of this fund is to provide tuition assistance to two capable and deserving students from Covington or Jefferson Davis County. Preference shall be given to students from an under-represented ethnic group. The award shall be equally divided between fall and spring semesters. Recipients must be enrolled as full-time students and must maintain a 2.75 overall grade point average. Finally, it is preferred that the award be offered to students with limited other scholarship assistance. To be selected by Financial Aid. Award to two students when donations are over $1,000.

Nation International Programs Annual Scholarship Fund
(Fund No. 0451)
The purpose of this fund is to provide a scholarship that will be awarded to students participating in international programs.

Edna Daves Yarbrough Annual Scholarship Fund
(Fund No. 1075)
The purpose of this fund is to award a scholarship to a student on the basis of Christian dedication, belief in God, financial need, good moral character and high respect for the United States government. Preference shall be given to freshmen or junior college transfers.

1910 Annual Scholarship 
(Fund No. 1084)
The purpose of this fund is to award a scholarship to students with a minimum 2.5 GPA.

National Pan-Hellenic Council Annual Scholarship (Fund No. 1322)
The purpose of this fund is to award a scholarship to a second semester Freshman, Sophomore, or Junior with a minimum 3.0 GPA. Preference will be given to a student who is an African American.

Luckyday Foundation Citizenship Annual Scholarship
(Fund No. 1325)
The purpose of this fund is to award scholarships to Mississippi residents with financial need who are exemplary students and who actively engage in community service.

GOALS Annual Scholarship (Fund No. 1571)
The purpose of this fund is to award a scholarship to a student with financial need who does not qualify for the pell grant. The student must be enrolled at the Gulf Park campus and have a minimum GPA of 2.5.

ABWA Gulfport Charter Chapter Annual Scholarship (Fund No. 1593)
The purpose of this fund is to award a scholarship to a Gulf Coast campus student with financial need and a minimum 2.5 GPA. The student must be a U.S. citizen from Harrison, Hancock or Jackson County, Mississippi. The scholarship is limited to $1,000 per recipient and is a one-time scholarship. Extra-curricular activities and community service will be considered during the selection process. Recipient must be willing to attend a designated ABWA chapter meeting.

Amite County Farm Bureau Scholarship Fund
(Fund No. 1618)
The purpose of this fund is to award a scholarship to a full-time undergraduate student enrolled at USM. Recipients must be residents of Amite County, Mississippi, have a score of 18 or above on the ACT, maintain a 2.5 GPA or above during freshman term or 3.0 GPA or above as a sophomore, junior and senior. Entering freshman applicants must be full-time at any public or private school in Amite County, Mississippi. Recipient must maintain Amite County Farm Bureau membership at primary residence address.

Robert Gaines/State Farm Northeast Mississippi Scholarship Fund
(Fund No. 1632)
The purpose of this fund is to attract top students (freshman) from Tupelo High School and/or Lee County to attend The University of Southern Mississippi. Priority in the selection will be given to students who excel in academics and are involved in service-oriented and leadership clubs and organizations.

Singing River Federal Credit Union Annual Scholarship Fund
(Fund No. 1648)
The purpose of this fund is to award a scholarship to a student from Jackson, George or Greene counties who has completed 12 hours of credit. Preference will be given to members of Singing River Federal Credit Union enrolled on the Hattiesburg or Gulf Park campuses.

Staff Council Annual Scholarship Fund
(Fund No. 1649)
The purpose of this fund is to award a scholarship to a staff member enrolled at The University of Southern Mississippi.

Nicki Case - Catholic Student Association Annual Scholarship Fund
(Fund No. 1656)
The purpose of this fund is to provide an annual scholarship to an incoming freshman from the Mississippi Gulf Coast. The recipient must have at least a 3.0 GPA and be a new member of the Catholic Student Association. The recipient will be determined by the pastor of St. Thomas Church in Hattiesburg.

Undergraduate Retention Annual Scholarship (Fund No. 1672)
The purpose of this fund is to provide a scholarship to a student who has previously been on probation continued or suspension but has since been in good standing for two full academic semesters.

C Spire Annual Scholarship (Fund No. 1724)
The purpose of this fund is to provide four scholarships awarded by the College of Business and one scholarship awarded by the College of Science and Technology. The four scholarship recipients selected by the College of Business must be pursuing a degree in Accounting, Marketing or Business Administration. The one scholarship recipient selected by the College of Science and Technology must be pursuing a degree in Information/Computer Science. The recipients must also: a) be a U.S. citizen; b) be a resident in the C Spire footprint which includes the states of Mississippi, Alabama and Tennessee; c) have a minimum score of 25 on the ACT; and d) have a minimum 3.0 GPA.

Shelby F. Thames Luckyday Honor Award Fund
(Fund No. 1756)
The purpose of this fund is to award scholarships to outstanding students who are residents of the state of Mississippi. This scholarship shall be renewed each year as determined by the Vice President for Student Affairs, Associate Vice President for Enrollment Management and Director of Admissions.

James D. and Sara M. Turner Annual Scholarship Fund (Fund No. 1814)
The purpose of this fund is to award a scholarship to one student with financial need in the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Master's Program and to one student with financial need in the School of Social Work Master's Program.  Each recipient shall be awarded $500 per year.  If a student with financial need cannot be identified, the financial need criterion may be waived.

Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity "Balanced Man" Annual Scholarship Fund
(Fund No. 1859)
The purpose of this fund is to award a scholarship to a "Balanced Man" who exhibits academic excellence, demonstrates leadership skills and has a commitment to health and well-being. Preference shall be given to a freshman pledge of the Mississippi Gamma Chapter of the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity who is a "Balanced Man" according to the criteria set forth in the National Sigma Phi Epsilon "Balanced Man" Scholarship Program.

Jubilee Annual Scholarship Fund (Fund No. 1894)
The purpose of this fund is to award a scholarship to deserving women and minority students.

Stephen L. Hatten Sigma Chi Annual Scholarship Fund
(Fund No. 1898)
The purpose of this fund is to award a scholarship to students at The University of Southern Mississippi with preference given to members of the Theta Delta Chapter of the Sigma Chi Fraternity.

John and Molly Mann Annual Scholarship Fund
(Fund No. 1899)
The purpose of this fund is to award a scholarship to a student who exhibits strength in character, has  demonstrated a balance of extracurricular activities and shows clear potential to benefit from a college education.  Preference shall be given to a student who has a GPA of 3.25 or higher. Student shall be a graduate of a Catholic high school located on the Mississippi Gulf Coast with preference given to graduates of St. Patrick Catholic High School, Biloxi, Mississippi.   

Southwest Central Mississippi Chapter Alumni Association Annual Scholarship Fund
(Fund No. 1963)
The purpose of this fund is to award a scholarship to a student who graduated from a high school that is located in one of the following counties within the Southwest Central Mississippi area: Amite, Copiah, Lawrence, Lincoln, Pike or Walthall.

Tampa, Florida Area Alumni Chapter Annual Scholarship Fund
(Fund No. 1971)
The purpose of this fund is to award a scholarship to a student who meets the following criteria: (i) shall have graduated from a high school that is located within the Tampa, Florida area; (ii) shall have graduated high school with a grade point average not less than 3.0 on a 4.0 scale; and (iii) shall have participated in and demonstrated leadership ability in various extracurricular activities in both school and the community. Preference shall be given to an incoming freshman and to children of Southern Miss alumni. If no student from the Tampa, Florida area meets the criteria, the scholarship will be awarded to another qualified student.

Robert M. Hearin Foundation Annual Scholarship (Fund No. 1998)
The purpose of this fund is to award scholarships to full-time undergraduate students with financial need. Individual scholarships are limited to $1,000 per year. Immediate family members of faculty, staff, or administration are not eligible for this scholarship.

Southeast Central Mississippi Alumni Chapter Annual Scholarship (Fund No. 2003)
The purpose of this fund is to award a scholarship to a student with a 2.75 GPA. Preference shall be given to a junior or senior from Wayne County and students who have financial need.

Valeria Jean Moore Downey Memorial Annual Scholarship (Fund No. 2007)
The purpose of this fund is to award a scholarship to a student with financial need from Long Beach, Mississippi, or Gulfport, Mississippi. The student must be attending the Gulf Coast campus and maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0.

Gertrude Fertitta Annual Scholarship (Fund No. 2069)
The purpose of this fund is to award scholarships to Southern Miss students to study abroad in Italy, preferably in Sicily. Scholarships may also be awarded to students from the area of Sicily, Italy, to study for up to two semesters at The University of Southern Mississippi.

Virtis Lanier, Sr. Annual Scholarship (Fund No. 2087)
The purpose of this fund is to award a scholarship to a sophomore student who is a graduate of Lanier High School who has the highest cumulative GPA with a 2.0 minimum. If no sophomore meets the criteria, the scholarship may be awarded to a junior or senior who meets the criteria. A new recipient should be selected each semester.

Demario K. Smith Annual Scholarship (Fund No. 2091)
The purpose of this fund is to award a scholarship to an African-American student with financial need who has a minimum 3.0 GPA. First preference will be given to a Pike County resident. Second preference will be given to a Leake County resident.

Anthony L. Jones Greenville Annual Scholarship (Fund No. 2103)
The purpose of this fund is to award scholarships to two freshman students from Greenville, MS with a minimum 3.2 GPA. Each student shall receive $600 per academic year. If no freshman meets the criteria, the scholarship may be awarded to upperclassmen. Preference will be given to students with financial need who demonstrate leadership and community service.

Dr. Joe Paul Society of 1910 Annual Scholarship (Fund No. 2140)
The purpose of this fund is to award a scholarship to an undergraduate student in any major who is active in the Inter-Fraternity Council or an Inter-Fraternity Council member fraternity. The name of the recipient will be announced each year on Founder's Day. 


General University Endowed Scholarships


USS Biloxi (CL-80) Scholarship (Fund No. 0512)
The purpose of this fund is to award an annual scholarship of $1,000 to a graduating senior from Biloxi High School, Biloxi, Mississippi, who has met all admission requirements of USM as an entering freshman. The recipient shall be selected under the procedures established by the administration of Biloxi High School. In addition, the fund will be used to award a second scholarship of $1,000 to each recipient provided he or she satisfactorily completes the academic requirements of his or her freshman year and remains enrolled for his or her sophomore year at USM. It is the intent of the Association to award the annual scholarship of $1,000 to the recipient for his or her junior and senior year of study at USM, providing the expendable interest accrued annually is available and in keeping with the USM Foundation spending policy.

Dr. Rick Peden Memorial Endowment
(Fund No. 0513)
The purpose of this fund is to provide support for a University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Coast student with financial need. Funds are to be used for educational assistance.

J.T. Palmer Alpha Tau Omega Founders Scholarship Endowment (Fund No. 0519)
The purpose of this fund is to award a scholarship to a student who is a member of the Epsilon Upsilon Chapter of the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity at The University of Southern Mississippi.

Joe Cook Endowed Scholarship
(Fund No. 0521)
The purpose of this fund is to award a scholarship to African American students from Lowndes County, Mississippi, with preference to first generation college students.

Thomas E. and Frances Jerome Boone Scholarship
(Fund No. 0533)
The purpose of this fund is to award a scholarship each year to a capable and deserving student from Forrest County Agricultural High School. The recipient will be selected by a committee of teachers from Forrest County Agricultural High School and the donor(s).

Bessie Parker Proctor Memorial Scholarship
(Fund No. 0534)
The purpose of this fund is to provide a scholarship to a deserving student who is a graduate of Tylertown High School majoring in Music, or if there is not a qualified Music major, to be awarded to a student majoring in Education. If there are no Education majors who qualify, the expendable interest from the fund shall be returned and added to the corpus. Financial Aid shall select the recipient.

Karen M. Yarbrough Graduate Education Scholarship Endowment (Fund No. 0542)
The purpose of this fund is to provide scholarship to graduate students with preference given to doctoral students.

Elmer and Eleanor Wasmer Scholarship Endowment
 (Fund No. 0544)
The purpose of this fund is to provide a scholarship to a student with financial need and a high school or college GPA of 2.5 or better.

Jude-DePree Scholarship Endowment
(Fund No. 0569)
The purpose of this fund is to provide a scholarship to be awarded to a student who is a daughter or son of a janitorial or maintenance worker at The University of Southern Mississippi. The student must be enrolled for a minimum of twelve credit hours per semester and must maintain a 2.5 GPA to remain eligible each year. The recipient shall receive the scholarship each year in which he/she meets the minimum eligibility requirements until he/she graduates from The University of Southern Mississippi. The daughter or son shall not be eligible to receive the scholarship in any year the parent ceases to be a janitorial or maintenance worker at The University of Southern Mississippi. Each recipient shall be selected by the Jude-Depree Scholarship Endowment Committee.

Tom Shoemaker Greek Life Endowment
(Fund No. 0577)
The purpose of this fund is to provide a scholarship that shall be awarded annually to an underclassman who is a member of a campus sorority or fraternity and who has been an "agent of change" for the Greek system and the University community. The recipient should hold or have held leadership positions in the Greek system and on campus. A committee comprised of three alumni-at-large, a staff member-at-large, the Director of Greek Life and the Vice President of Student Affairs will determine the recipient. The Vice President of Student Affairs will appoint at-large members to serve a three-year term.

Audelle Robertson Lucas Scholarship Endowment (Fund No. 0590) 
This scholarship was established to honor Audelle Robertson Lucas by her children, Aubrey K. Lucas, Max C. Lucas and Margaret Lucas Morris. This scholarship shall be awarded to a student in any major. Preference shall be given to students from Greene and Wayne Counties. 

G. E. Shoemake Scholarship Endowment
(Fund No. 0596)
The purpose of this fund is to award a scholarship to a nontraditional student who clearly demonstrates financial need with preference to students from Forrest and Lamar County.

Walter and Luther W. Conn Scholarship Endowment
(Fund No. 0609)
The purpose of this fund is to provide a scholarship that shall be awarded to a student from Mississippi with financial need. The student must not own a car unless they are a nursing student.

Lois Arender Drain Scholarship Endowment
(Fund No. 0624)
The purpose of this fund is to provide a scholarship to a student majoring in Interior Design, Math or Music with financial need. Preference shall be given to students from Smith County.

John and Jan Polk Scholarship Endowment
(Fund No. 0633)
The purpose of this fund is to provide a scholarship to a deserving student attending The University of Southern Mississippi with preference given to employees of Polk's Meat Products, Inc. dependents enrolled in any major. The employee must have worked for a minimum of two years with Polk's Meat Products, Inc. If a Polk's employee's dependent is not chosen, the scholarship may be awarded to a student enrolled in Casino, Hospitality and Tourism Management with a minimum 2.5 GPA.

Farris Farris Endowment
(Fund No. 0646)
The purpose of this fund is to award a scholarship to an undergraduate student who is a former Southern Miss student-athlete in the sports of baseball, soccer or golf. This student-athlete must have exhausted his/her athletic eligibility. This scholarship is open to all majors and the student-athlete must maintain the academic requirements of the College for his/her major.

Susan Nicholson Memorial Endowment
(Fund No. 0649)
The purpose of this fund is to provide a scholarship for a student who is a Forrest or Lamar County resident who demonstrates financial need and has clearly demonstrated leadership qualities.

W. H. Weathersby Scholarship Endowment
(Fund No. 0655)
The purpose of this fund is to provide scholarship funds for a male or female single parent who clearly demonstrates financial need. The recipient is to be selected by a scholarship committee comprised of a representative from Financial Aid, the USM Foundation and a faculty member.

Melvene Draheim Hardee Scholarship Endowment
(Fund No. 0657)
The purpose of this fund is to provide scholarships for Music and Eagle Club Scholarships.

Stephen L. Hatten Sigma Chi Endowment
(Fund No. 0663)
The purpose of this fund is to provide scholastic assistance to Southern Miss students who are members or pledges of the Theta Delta Chapter of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. The recipients of these scholarships will be determined by the Theta Delta House Board of Directors. In instances permissible by IRS Code the TDHCBD may use the endowed funds for chapter house improvement and educational equipment for chapter use.

Oseola McCarty Endowed Scholarship
(Fund No. 0670)
The purpose of this fund is to provide scholarships to capable and deserving students who have financial need with consideration given to African-American students from the Hattiesburg and South Mississippi area. 

Marshall Durbin Endowed Scholarship
(Fund No. 0683)
The purpose of this fund is to provide scholarship funds to capable and deserving students with preference being given to the children of Marshall Durbin employees and growers.

Thomas Walton Memorial Scholarship
(Fund No. 0684)
The purpose of this fund is to provide a scholarship to a student from either Baldwin or Mobile County, Ala. Preference shall be given to a student who is an active member of Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity. If no student from Baldwin or Mobile County can be identified, the scholarship may be awarded to a student from Alabama. If no student from Alabama meets the criteria, the scholarship may be awarded to another qualified student.

American Legion Post 139 - Richard Thames Scholarship Endowment
(Fund No. 0702)
The purpose of this fund is to provide a scholarship that shall be awarded to undergraduate students with a minimum GPA of 2.5 with preference given to children of Post 139 members who reside in Hancock County. If no student from that area meets the criteria, the scholarship will be awarded to another qualified student.

Ernest Lee Backstrom Memorial Scholarship Endowment
(Fund No. 0704)
The purpose of this fund is to provide a scholarship that shall be awarded to a capable and deserving student with financial need.

Judge R. J. Bishop Award Term-Endowment Fund 
(Fund No. 0707)
The purpose of this fund is to provide support to the Judge R. J. Bishop Award which is given to a senior graduating in May or August who is a native Mississippian and who has demonstrated a strong work ethic and determination to succeed in spite of difficulties.

S. H. Blair Endowed Scholarship
(Fund No. 0708)
The purpose of this fund is to provide a scholarship to any qualified USM student in need of financial assistance, who has graduated from the Hattiesburg Public School System, and who is enrolled in the area of Physical Education or School Administration, showing a preference for the coaching field. No athletic scholarship is to be awarded.

Katherine Brown Scholarship Endowment
(Fund No. 0711)
The purpose of this fund is to provide scholarships to students who are active military personnel, veterans or bootstrappers; or dependents of military personnel, veterans or bootstrappers.

Kathryn Williams Farmer Scholarship Endowment
(Fund No. 0722)
The purpose of this fund is to award a scholarship to a needy student.

L. Y. Foote Endowed Scholarship
(Fund No. 0723)
The purpose of this fund is to provide scholarship assistance to a student with the best interest of the University in mind. Preference shall be given to a student from the Hattiesburg area with economic need to be a factor.

1910 Scholarship Endowment
(Fund No. 0725)
The purpose of this fund is to provide scholarships to students with a minimum 2.5 GPA.

Lester Haddox Scholarship
(Fund No. 0729)
The purpose of this fund is to provide a scholarship to a worthy and promising student from Marion County who has economic need, good character and a stated goal in life.

L. C. Kirkland Endowment
(Fund No. 0732)
The purpose of this fund is to provide a scholarship for the benefit of capable and needy students.

Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Lewis Endowment
(Fund No. 0735)
The purpose of this fund is to provide a scholarship to a needy student. Selection is to be based on citizenship record, economic need and scholarship.

William Walter Munson Scholarship Endowment
 (Fund No. 0741)
The purpose of this fund is to provide a scholarship to a worthy student.

M. M. Roberts Scholarship
(Fund No. 0745)
The purpose of this fund is to award an undergraduate scholarship to a capable and deserving student preferably, from Mississippi.

T. Hiram Stanley Endowed Scholarship
(Fund No. 0747)
The purpose of this fund is to provide a scholarship to a student at The University of Southern Mississippi.

Douglas Allen Traweek Memorial Scholarship
(Fund No. 0748)
The purpose of this fund is to provide scholarship assistance to a senior with financial need with preference given to residents of Clarke County.

Leon and Ivah Wilber Scholarship
(Fund No. 0752)
The purpose of this fund is to award $50 to an outstanding freshman woman student and divide the balance between outstanding Pan-Hellenic women with preference given to an outstanding senior in Political Science who plans to do graduate work at USM.

Edna Daves Yarbrough Memorial Scholarship
(Fund No. 0753)
The purpose of this fund is to provide a scholarship to a Caucasian student or students on the basis of evident Christian dedication, belief in God and the Christian faith, evidence of definite need, good moral character and a high respect for the United States government. Preference is to be given to students entering college or to junior college transfers.

Howard J. "Skip" Lee and Gene H. McDaniel Scholarship Endowment (Fund No. 0759)
The purpose of this fund is to award a scholarship to a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon with more than 60 credit hours and a minimum GPA of 2.5 who has demonstrated leadership and involvement in campus affairs. The recipient must be an outstanding active member. Strong preference will be given to those residing in the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity house.

Faculty Memorial Scholarship Endowment
(Fund No. 0761)
The purpose of this fund is to provide a scholarship to a student who is the child of a USM faculty member. The recipient must have a minimum GPA of 2.5. If no student who is the child of a USM faculty member can be identified, this criterion may be waived.

Helen Duke Fike Memorial Scholarship
(Fund No. 0781)
The purpose of this fund is to provide a scholarship to a needy student, regardless of discipline.

Hattie Hardy Scholarship
Endowment (Fund No. 0783)
The purpose of this fund is to award a scholarship to a student who demonstrates academic excellence and who is a native Mississippian. Preference will be given to a student from Hattiesburg.

J. D. and Rhoda Herring Scholarship (Fund No. 0797)
The purpose of this fund is to provide a scholarship to a student from the state of Mississippi with a good academic record. Selection of the recipient shall be based on recommendation of the donor, VP of Administrative Affairs, and a representative of the USM Office of Development.

Samuel R. Bradley Scholarship
(Fund No. 0798)
The purpose of this fund is to provide a scholarship to an undergraduate or graduate student based on need. No award will be made until the fund reaches $10,000.

Reese D. and Corinne H. McLendon Scholarship Endowment
(Fund No. 0804)
The purpose of this fund is to provide a scholarship to a student who is a graduate of a public high school.

Ethel Whatley Kroker Scholarship Endowment
 (Fund No. 0806)
The purpose of this fund is to provide scholarships to students with financial need.

Kyle Greer Memorial Endowment (Fund No. 0807)
The purpose of this fund is to provide a scholarship for a graduate of a Simpson County school who is a capable and deserving student. The recipient must meet all University of Southern Mississippi admission requirements and be a full-time student. No specific GPA is required. The recipient of this scholarship will be selected by Dixie Everett, Simpson County Technical Center Counselor, and Kelly Greer, brother of Kyle Greer, or his designee.

Kevin Swanson Memorial Scholarship Endowment
 (Fund No. 0809)
The purpose of this fund is to award a scholarship to a student with financial need and a minimum GPA of 3.0.

Lynn B. McMahan Gerontology Scholarship
(Fund No. 0812)
The purpose of this fund is to provide a scholarship to an outstanding senior from undergraduate/graduate Social Work and Rehabilitation Services or Home Economics with genuine interest of working with the elderly. The award should be given as a true award strived for, rather than need.

W. A. Thomson Scholarship
(Fund No. 0822)
The purpose of this fund is to provide a scholarship to a capable and deserving student in the Hattiesburg area.

Linnie Cockrell and Colby D. Simmons Endowed Scholarship (Fund No. 0825)
The purpose of this fund is to provide a scholarship to a capable and deserving student from either Jones or Jasper counties demonstrating financial need.

Alton Scott Scholarship Endowment
 (Fund No. 0829)
The purpose of this fund is to provide a scholarship to a student from Washington County, Alabama.

Honduras Medical Scholarship Endowment

The purpose of this fund is to award a scholarship to a Honduran student who is a committed Christian and has a strong interest in the medical field. The recipient must have an exemplary high school academic record. An ACT score of 18 and a SAT score of 850 is preferred. The recipient should make a commitment to return to Honduras to work in the medical field on a basis of one year of service for each year of scholarship received. A selection subcommittee comprised of donor representatives will identify a suitable candidate and present him/her to the scholarship committee comprised of representatives of the Office of International Student Affairs, College of International and Continuing Education. Selection criteria will include standardized test scores, review of transcripts and curriculum vita, two letters of recommendation, a two-page, double-spaced essay and an interview either in person or by phone.

Accenture - High Performance Delivered Scholarship

The purpose of this fund is to award a scholarship to an entering freshman that qualifies for the Honors College. Preference will be given to attracting a minority that qualifies for the Honors College, but is not required. The University will use the scholarship to help attract top students that have demonstrated high performance in their high school careers and meet the standards required to enter the Honors College. The scholarship will be awarded for the freshman year with the possibility of subsequent awards (amount to be determined) based on active community involvement and meeting required Honors College criteria. Applicants will be screened by the University to meet the Honors College criteria. A steering committee comprised of Dr. Alvin Williams, Dr. Joe Paul and Tommy Mann (or another Accenture representative) will make the final decision on awards.

The purpose of this fund is to provide scholarship support to full-time undergraduate students enrolled at The University of Southern Mississippi majoring in Marketing, Accounting, Computer Science, Business Administration, Advertising, Communication or Journalism with an emphasis in Public Relations. Students must be residents of Mississippi. Preference will be given to resident students residing in the Mississippi Power Company service area and students demonstrating financial need. A 3.0 GPA is also required. Applicants must identify community service activities in which they participate and compose a brief statement indicating their career plans and/or the importance of receiving this scholarship. Applicants must reapply each year to be reconsidered.

The purpose of this fund is to honor the parents of USM Alumni Jeffery Wayne Johnson and Peggy Wolfe Johnson. Preference and consideration given to minorities who are entering their junior or senior year with a 2.5 or better cumulative GPA. They must be Covington County residents and graduates of Collins High School. Priorities will be given to any students from the Shady Oak or Friendship communities of Covington County and who choose majors in the College of Business (preferably Accounting) or the College of Science and Technology (preferably Computer Science). Donor wishes to fund four simultaneous scholarships, rotating each year, or two freshman and two sophomore scholarships, first year and continuing with two new scholarships each year. The purpose of this fund is to award a scholarship to a student with financial need in the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Master's Program when the academic year begins in an odd year and to a student with financial need in the School of Social Work Master's Program when the academic year begins in an even year.  If a student with financial need cannot be identified, the financial need criterion may be waived.

The purpose of this fund is to award a scholarship to a student with financial need. Preference will be given to a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity from the Gulf Coast. The purpose of this fund is to award a scholarship to a student from St. Tammany Parish, La., with a minimum GPA of 3.0. If no student from that area meets the criteria, the scholarship will be awarded to another qualified student from Southern Louisiana.

Lawrence Bellipanni Science Fair Scholarship Endowment

The purpose of this fund is to award a scholarship to a student who is majoring in an area of the College of Science and Technology or the College of Education and Psychology who was a finalist in the Mississippi Science Fair. If no student meets the criteria, the scholarship will be awarded to a student enrolled in the College of Science and Technology or the College of Education and Psychology.

Elmo Lang Memorial Scholarship Endowment
(Fund No. 1856)
The purpose of this fund is to award a scholarship to an incoming freshman from Mississippi with a grade point average of at least 3.0 who submits a 300-word essay describing his/her activities and community involvement in high school. The student must also demonstrate financial need, although not necessarily as defined by federal guidelines. If a student with financial need cannot be identified, the financial need criterion may be waived. This scholarship may not be awarded to any direct descendant of Elmo Lang.

The purpose of this fund is to award a scholarship to a single parent with preference to a person in Lamar or Forrest County. The student must maintain a 3.0 GPA to continue to receive the yearly scholarship.

Sid and Laura Evans Scholarship Endowment
(Fund No. 1874)
The purpose of this fund is to award a scholarship to an incoming freshman with financial need and a 3.0 high school GPA who is a native of Mississippi. This scholarship may be renewed up to three additional years so long as the recipient maintains a 2.5 GPA. The financial need criterion does not have to be met for the student's remaining three academic years. Preference may be given to a descendant of Thomas E. Lee. If a student with financial need cannot be identified, the financial need criterion may be waived.

Van and Mary Lowry Scholarship Endowment

The purpose of this fund is to award a scholarship to a deserving student with a classification of sophomore or higher with a minimum cumulative 2.75 GPA in all college coursework. Preference will be given to students from Marion County.

The purpose of this fund is to award scholarships with preference given to the active big brother and new member little brother of the Zeta Chi Chapter of Delta Tau Delta who together have the highest combined GPA from the Fall semester.

Sid and Joni Gonsoulin Leadership Scholarship Endowment

The purpose of this fund is to award scholarships with preference given to the Big Brother/Little Brother combination of the Zeta Chi Chapter of Delta Tau Delta that demonstrates leadership in recruitment activities, committee work, on and off campus activities and that possesses a combined average GPA of 2.55 or better from the Spring semester.

Ellen L. Walker Graduate Scholarship Endowment (Fund No. 1980)
The purpose of this fund is to award a scholarship to a student pursuing a master's or Ph.D. in any field of study who is at least 30 years old with a 3.0 GPA.  Preference shall be given to students who are childfree.  Applicants must provide a statement that is at least one page in length about their course of study, goals, as well as comments about being childfree and how it has impacted their lives.

Sam B. Crawford Scholarship Endowment
(Fund No. 1981)
The purpose of this fund is to award a scholarship to a student from Covington County, Mississippi, who is in good academic standing with preference given but not limited to a student who exhibits the principles of Sam B. Crawford, including campus or community involvement and leadership activities. If a student from the area cannot be identified, the scholarship will be withheld until a student who does meet the criteria can be identified.

Peyton and Michele Myers Veterans Scholarship Endowment
(Fund No. 1982)
The purpose of this fund is to award a scholarship to a student who is a U.S. Veteran, including active military personnel and direct dependants of U.S. Veterans, who has a cumulative GPA between 2.0 and 3.25. Preference shall be given to students who are enrolled in Construction Engineering Technology or Special Education. The recipient must have financial need, but must not qualify for grant aid.

The purpose of this fund is to award a scholarship to a Senior Girl Scout from one of the following counties: Clark, Covington, Forrest, George, Green, Hancock, Harrison, Jackson, Jasper, Jefferson Davis, Jones, Kemper, Lamar, Lauderdale, Marion, Neshoba, Newton, Pearl River, Perry, Stone, and Wayne that comprised the former Gulf Pines Girl Scout Council, or neighboring Pike or Walthall counties, who has earned the Gold Award. The purpose of this fund is to award scholarships to students with a minimum 3.0 GPA with financial need. Each recipient must be a child of a USM faculty or staff member.

The purpose of this fund is to award a scholarship to a student with financial need enrolled in a University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Coast program.

Barbara Ross Gold Leaf Scholarship Endowment (Fund No. 2013)
The purpose of this fund is to award a scholarship to a student who is a member of a Greek organization, demonstrates the values of The Gold Leaf, has a passion for the University and its history, and who has the potential to be a great alumnus(a). The name of the recipient will be announced each year on Founder's Day.

Residence Life Scholarship Endowment (Fund No. 2024)

The purpose of this fund is to award a scholarship to a full time undergraduate student with an overall cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 who is in good standing with Residence Life and the University and who is residing in a residence hall. Student must submit an application by the deadline, including a 500 word essay that addresses the topic of how living on campus has affected his/her college experience, and three letters of recommendation with at least one letter from a Residence Life employee.

Mississippi Export Railroad Gulf Coast Scholarship Endowment (Fund No. 2039)
The purpose of this fund is to award a scholarship to a student enrolled in any program at The University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Coast.

Kappa Sigma Memorial and Honorarium Scholarship Endowment (Fund No. 2046)
The purpose of this fund is to award a scholarship to a student who is a member of the Epsilon Nu Chapter of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity.

The purpose of this fund is to award scholarships to students who are members of the Theta Alpha Chapter of the Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity who have a minimum 3.0 GPA. Preference will be given to students who demonstrate a strong work ethic, selflessness and love for family and friends.

Debbie B. Shemper Art and Interior Design Memorial Scholarship Endowment (Fund No. 2071)
The purpose of this fund is to award a scholarship to a student majoring in Art or Interior Design with a minimum 3.0 GPA.  Preference will be given to a female student.

Paul Richard Lambert Public Service Scholarship Endowment (Fund No. 2072)
The purpose of this fund is to award a scholarship to a full time junior or senior who is a member of a Greek organization (fraternity or sorority) with a minimum 3.25 GPA and who displays an interest in pursuing law or public service.

The purpose of this fund is to award a scholarship to a senior to assist with the completion of his/her degree. Preference should be given to students with high character, integrity and industry.

Dr. Nancy Whitten New Summit Scholarship Endowment (Fund No. 2142)
The purpose of this fund is to provide a scholarship for a graduate of New Summit School in Jackson, Mississippi or North New Summit School in Greenwood, Mississippi.  Consideration will be given on the basis of leadership, campus involvement, and community service. If no student can be found from either high school, the scholarship shall be awarded to another deserving student from Jackson or Greenwood.

Eric Kelly and Charles Lowery, Jr. Noxubee County Annual Scholarship (Fund No. 2147)
The purpose of this fund is to award a scholarship to the freshman with the highest GPA from Noxubee County, Mississippi. If there is no freshman student from Noxubee County, Mississippi, preference will be given to the undergraduate with the highest GPA.
