College of Nursing Building Campaign

Southern Miss is poised to be a major player in the future of health care in Mississippi and beyond. The College of Nursing at The University of Southern Mississippi is committed to a tradition of quality education by advancing nursing science, academic excellence and nursing practice in the Gulf South.

The majority of nurses in the future will not be in the hospital, but will be in the community. A new College of Nursing building will enable Southern Miss to combine the education of our nursing students with community involvement through:
  • Caregiver support groups that include education of caregivers such as treatments, medication and how to garner resources from the health providers
  • Validation-based skill check-offs with health care providers, first responders and others
  • Teaching families and caregivers how to manage chronic care across the health care system
  • Activities with all age groups relating to health
  • Providing health screening activities
A state-of-the-art facility will provide an applied learning space to help generate the nurses desperately needed to fill the health care requirements of the state of Mississippi and beyond. A new building will empower nursing faculty to continue to strive for instructional excellence and will further impact our ability to recruit qualified students and faculty.
